If you travel 36 km West from Ciudad Quesada, you will find the Bosque Eterno de los Niños, whose name comes from the work of thousands of children all over the world (in forty-four countries) to collect funds that are invested in the acquisition of the lands forming the park.
Nowadays, this park takes up 20.000 Ha of protected tropical forest, becoming the largest private reserve in Costa Rica. In 2007, it received the UNESCO Water and Peace Biosphere Reserve designation.
This reserve is neither very well-known, nor too much visited; consequently, it is easier to catch sight of wild animals than in the near reserves and national parks. If you take binoculars and are patient enough, you will be able to watch boobies, foxes, quetzals, monkeys, snakes, frogs, anteaters, jaguars, toucans, sloths, etc.
The reserve is enormous, so it takes several days to go over its many available routes; however, they all are really similar and it is possible to get a fix on it by strolling through a couple of them.
The Bosque Eterno de los Niños reserve is, without doubt, one of the best examples of the famous Costa Rican motto “¡pura vida!” (“pure life!”), given that 50 % of all the animal and vegetal species of the country live across its borders.
Whether you are a nature lover or you like strolling, this natural attraction is ideal for you. Do not hesitate to wear your trekking boots and to enjoy some fresh air.
