The Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (the Tropical Agricultural Center of Research and Education), or CATIE, is an official organization devoted to the research and education concerning tropical agriculture, which is placed in the village of Turrialba, in Cartago. There, visits of great tourist interest to the CatieNature are organized. It is a space of more than 45 Ha where more than 4400 genetic samples, representative of more than 280 different species from all over the world, are shown.
Furthermore, you can learn about the scientific work carried out at the CATIE related to the environmental preservation and the promotion of natural resource sustainability and agricultural cultivation practices. Through an interactive and dynamic experience, you will get to know medicinal, stimulant and ornamental plants, roots and tubers, timber trees and exotic fruits. Besides, through guided tours, you will know the numerous current projects of the CATIE. You can also go over the botanical garden, the seed collection of the Banco de Germoplasma and the international cultivation collections; in addition to the Proyecto de Ganadería Tropical Sostenible (the Sustainable Tropical Stockbreeding Project).
