Zancudo Beach is a wonderful beach located 10 km from Golfito by boat and 54.8 km from the Pan-American highway, in the Puntarenas province, in front of the Osa Peninsula, in Costa Rica.
The harmonious environment of Zancudo Beach is formed by a long coastline of black sand full of coconut palm trees. This is an unspoilt beach little visited by tourists, which confers it a calm environment. Notwithstanding the tranquility, in this beach you can practice several water sports which will make the most of your vacation.
In the northern area of the beach, the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean slide smoothly on the shore, turning the place into a perfect place to swim among its gentle waves. Contrarily, the south is characterized by higher waves, to the point that those are suitable for practicing surf and boogie-boarding. Furthermore, there is the possibility of trying other water sports, such as recreational fishing, water ski, snorkeling and kayaking. There is also a range of activities available for those who prefer the land, such as horse riding, walking near the Coto Colorado river or visiting the botanical gardens of the Casa de Orquídeas (Orchid House).
Additionally, thanks to a mangrove located along the river, you can observe monkeys, crocodiles and a great amount of bird species. However, as it is a desert beach, a day lying on the sand under the sun can also be very pleasant.
Zancudo Beach is located near a small fishing village, where some basic services like bars, restaurants and several types of accommodations are offered to the tourist. The local facilities are inhabited by a group of North Americans and Europeans, creating all together a charming and surprisingly varied community.
