Playa Hermosa is located between Jacó and Esterillos beaches, close to Jacó and San José cities. It has nothing to do with the other beach with the same name located in the province of Guanacaste, as this one is placed in the Garabito canton, in the Puntarenas province.
This beach is mainly known as a paradise for surfers due to its rough waters, with up to 13 m waves; swimming is not recommended because of the strong currents. Hermosa Beach is recommended for expert surfers, since it offers one of the most intense surfing experiences in the world, creating a true show for spectators.
Nonetheless, for those who are not keen on surfing, this beautiful beach of dark sand also offers a unique landscape where you can calmly enjoy the sun or visit the Playa Hermosa Wildlife Refuge, a refuge where the olive ridley sea turtles that spawn here every year are protected.
