Santa María y Valle de Dota is a small but adorable village located only 40 km from the capital, San José. This beautiful village is an ideal spot to find ease from the great Costa Rican metropolis.

This village is an ideal place both for visiting with family or just for spending a while surrounded by peace and tranquility in this exceptional environment.

It is possible to go on an excursion to the Los Quetzales National Park, one of the main habitats of this wonderful Costa Rican bird. Moreover, this park offers you the opportunity to contemplate the exotic and wild fauna of the region, which stands out by the fact of having more than two hundred bird species, such as hummingbirds, warblers or falcons. Thus, this is an ideal environment for bird watching, although it is important to keep in mind that the best months to do it are April and May. In addition, it is possible to visit the famous Cerro de la Muerte Massif, whose highest point offers an incredible view of the surrounding area; on clear days it is possible to sight the two coasts of the country on both sides: the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea coasts, as well as some of the most astonishing volcanoes.

Furthermore, one of the greatest attractions of the village not to be missed is the coffee, which is cultivated in its surroundings. This village, known for his sombra Tarrazu coffee, offers tours around its plantations, where you will see its production process and even taste this delicious coffee, which is unique in the world.

Besides, it is important not to forget the precious Pirris river that surrounds the village, in which fishing is one of the most practiced activities. For that reason, if you are interested in this sport, you can spend a good time there throwing your rod.
