Isla Coco Island is located in the Puntarenas canton, in the shore of the Pacific Ocean, in Costa Rica. This island of volcanic origin has always been considered as the biggest hiding place for pirate treasures in the world.
You can access the island by ship. The trip, from Puntarenas, lasts around 36 hours. Nevertheless, the visit to this awesome, uninhabited island is a must, as it is one of the most beautiful natural places in the world, and it was declared national park thanks to its favorable conservation status. For this reason, the island has forest rangers, biologists, researchers and sailors, as well as a very basic infrastructure, exclusively developed for their respective tasks.
In addition, one of the attractions that made this beach finalist in 2008 in the international competition "Siete maravillas naturales del mundo" (‘Seven Natural Wonders of the World’) is its impressive biodiversity, mainly endemic, that is, that numerous species can only be found in this place. Therefore, the island is packed with natural wonders, and you will not only enjoy the unique scenic beauty in every corner, with its incredible rivers and waterfalls, but also you will also live an unforgettable experience in an island that was the setting for some of the most famous films in history, such as Jurassic Park, The Fall of the Hawk, or Shark Island.
