Iglesia Santo Cristo de la Agonía (Santo Cristo de la Agonía Church) is located five blocks away from Central Park’s east side, outside Alajuela’s downtown.
It was built in 1935 but it looks much more old due to its baroque facade that is painted in pastel shades. A series of realist murals are scattered on the church’s inside walls representing the different stages of the implantation and development of the Christianist faith in Costa Rica. Priests, natives and colonizers can be seen gathered receiving the Word of God.
Get in and be amazed by the precious wooden altars with golden filigrees and by the marble columns and tiled floors.
