La Paz Waterfall has an extension of about 69 acres and its height ranges from 4200 ft to 5250 ft tall. It is one of the main tourist attractions of Costa Rica and one of the most appreciated and visited destinations. The park is located 15 miles away from the north of Alajuela.
The guided tours last for two hours, and there are lots of different tours offered, so if you want to visit it completely, it is recommended to stay the whole day. The La Paz river flows inside this park: it has five waterfalls on its course, among them the renowned La Paz waterfall: Costa Rica’s most photographed cataract. In addition, both cloud forests and rainy forests can be visited.
There is also an aviary with 40 different bird species, an insectarium, a butterfly farm, a hummingbird garden that has more than 26 different species, a serpentarium, a petting farm, a frog pond and an exhibition of orchids, heliconias and bromelias. Among the fauna that inhabits the park there are marmoset monkeys, squirrel monkeys, sloths, capuchin monkeys, spider monkeys, jaguars, mountain lions, ocelots, lynxes, etc.
The park can be visited autonomously, but it is advisable to hire a guide ($35 per group, maximum 5 persons per group). It is also recommended to wear comfortable shoes and an impermeable jacket, since it is usually rainy.
