The Parque Evangelista Blanco Brenes (Evangelista Blanco Brenes Park), also known as Parque Zarcero, is located just in front of the Iglesia San Rafael Arcangel Church, in Zarcero’s downtown, and it is a very visited spot by tourists due to the peculiar design of its topiaries.

For more than 50 years, the topiary artist Evangelista Blanco has been the person responsible for the imaginative decoration and the arduous maintenance. From cypress trees, and just using his garden shears and and hedge clippers, he has managed to transform these bushes into fantastic fairytale topiaries. They will surely delight and amaze you. Among the several “green statues” you will find all kinds of animals, arches, bridges, planes, carts, fantastic characters and even dinosaurs and bullfighters.

With the passing of time, these figures, sculpted to the detail, have become a representative symbol of Zarcero.
