The Jardín Botánico Else Kientzler (Else Kientzler Botanical Garden), in Alajuela, is a precious green area and an ideal place if you want to have a good time together with your family in your trip to Costa Rica.
This botanical garden houses a tropical plant collection that consists of about 2000 species that come from various parts of the world: Madagascar, Japan, New Zealand, the Bahamas, India, Java, and, of course, Costa Rica. You can find different types of gardens (fat plants, bromelias, orchids, and fruit trees), a bonsai collection and a medical plants exhibition. In addition, there are lots of family areas for leisure where you will be able relax and have a picnic surrounded by the purest nature at areas specially designed for that purpose. There is a garden and playground for children.
It should be noted that 40 % of the garden’s area is disabled-people friendly, adapted and accessible for them: handrails, ramps and pavements have been installed along the garden’s paths so that people on wheelchairs can access some areas of the park securely.
Some cultural activities carried out at the garden are for instance gardening workshops or talks.
