The Alianza Francesa (Franco-Costa Rican Alliance) building is a striking construction with an eclectic style, quite typical of the country. It was inspired by the French Renaissance and it is characterised by the ceiling of iron filigrees and the perfect symmetry of the façade, besides the iron gates and the metallic columns that were forged in France.
The construction finished in 1895 and it is considered to be part of the historical and architectural heritage of Costa Rica.
It is the headquarters of the French Embassy. Among its roles, the following are the most important: teaching French for everyone and spreading the French culture. There are more than 1400 students in its classrooms per year.
