The Museo de Ciencias Naturales La Salle (La Salle Natural Sciences Museum) has become a reference icon for researchers and nature lovers as it was declared museum of cultural interest. This museum houses the widest and richest biodiversity exhibition of Costa Rica, thus creating one of the largest natural heritage museums in the world with about 55000 displays in its collections.
La Salle Natural Sciences Museum is located in front of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Livestock´s building, in the area of La Mata Redonda, in San José. Its facilities cover an area of 2280 square metres and there you can enjoy exhibitions as interesting as the minerals and rocks, the invertebrates, the insects, the ornithology and the mammalian ones.
Without any doubt, one of the characteristics that define the La Salle Natural Sciences Museum is their use of taxidermy. There, you can observe a large exhibition of stuffed animals in its display cabinets with the sole object of studying and preserving them for future research. Nor must we forget that the museum exhibits an important collection on paleontology.
The museum also has an auditorium, a library and a large space where you can sit and eat.
