The Biblioteca Nacional (National Library) is located at one of the most outstanding places of San José, the surroundings of the National Park.
The library was founded in 1888, but the last building was built between 1969 and 1971. It stands out the structure of the façade built on modern lines.
The officially called Miguel Obregón Lizano National Library, in honour of a national hero, has the Costa Rica´s most valuable collection of books and manuscripts. You can look up all kind of books, magazines, newspapers, etc. at its great newspaper library, maps and audiovisuals recording, because admission is free to everyone, both for national and foreign citizens.
