Parque de la Merced is also known as “Carrillo Park”, a small and leafy green core inside the centre of the city of San José.
One of its peculiarities are the different pre-Columbian stone spheres from the Diquís area.
This park is nearby to one of the city’s main attractions: the famous iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Merced (also close to the San Juan de Dios Hospital), which gives the name of the park and its a must see church if you are walking about it. The building is a Catholic temple with a very special German Gothic architecture. Inside it, you can contemplate one of the most valuable images for the josefinos, Cristo Agonizante, a work by the artist Manuel María Zúñiga.
