The Parque de la Paz (Peace Park) is one of the biggest parks at the outskirts of San José and it is located in the southern part of the San Sebastián District.
This park was opened in 1989 and it is a work of the famous architect Antonio Quesada. It is a wonderful, quiet place to take a break from the noisy traffic of the downtown of San José where you can see The Destruction of the Arms Monument (La Destrucción de las Armas), which gives the name to the park, and the bust of Luis Muñoz Marín.
It has numerous sports facilities such as a cycle track, hockey rinks, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, and venues for music concerts. It is an ideal place to spend a day with your family or your partner, because it has picnic areas and children's playgrounds, where you can play with the younger ones. You can even row in small boats on the large lake.
In addition, this park is special because it is ideally suited for kite-flying, thanks to the elevated location where it is, opposite to the rest of the city. You can also enjoy the amazing views of the city from its distinctive promontories.
So, if you feel like you need a rest, the Parque de la Paz is a perfect place to spend a great and relaxed day.
