You should not miss the Edificio Maroy (Maroy Building) when walking through San José. It is located at the corner between 3rd Street and 1st Avenue. It is also called “Roy” Building and it was built in 1923. It is important to highlight the Neoclassical eclecticism of its architecture, typical of Costa Rica, and the dome, the balconies, the columns and the three stoned lions on the portico.

This significant building is built over another significant one that previously occupied that area, La información Newspaper. But it was caught by fire, because of a riot in 1919, motivated by the risings for the abolition of Federico Tinoco´s dictatorship.

This building was declared as part of the historical and architectural heritage of Costa Rica in 2000 and it is an emblematic work of the country’s history.
