The Museo del Jade Museum is one of the most exciting museums of Costa Rica: the world’s largest collection of Jade is stored there. The 6889 archeological pieces stand out among its collections, and among them a number of gold-made or bone-made objects, stones, and shells that the museum hosts. It has become one of the best art symbols of the pre-Columbian art of Costa Rica.
You can find this great museum to the west from Democracia Plaza and visit all of its collections in an spectacular brand new five-storey building. You can carry out diverse activities, as knowing its auditorium, workshop rooms, and shops or have a coffee while noticing the beauty of the place in the coffee shop.
There are permanent exhibitions, among them the Umbral room, the Jade room and the Memorial room stand out. In these rooms you can find exhibitions like the bird-shaped pendant, the jade jewel with a double headed bird, and the gold rattle. Nor can we forget that the museum hosts temporary exhibitions too.
The museum has guided tours, with which you can get to know the history of the Costa Rican pre-Columbian art in depth and enjoy its pleasant talks and visual exhibitions.
Without doubt, The Museo del Jade Museum has become one of the places that you cannot miss in your visit to San José.
