The Teatro Nacional (National Theater) is a point of reference of Costa Rican Fine Arts and Performing Arts. It’s the main scenario of Costa Rica´s plays where you can attend different kinds of plays or musicals.
The National Theater is in itself a tourist attraction thanks to the very spectacular architectural structure and its large size that has been declared as a national monument of Costa Rica. The theatre can accommodate about 600 people that are spread out in three areas: the stall, the main box, and the gods.
The building has some curiosities in its interior: a digital accelerograph, a centre of document management and research, and two exhibitions of artistic works, where the ones by José Luis López Escarré and Enrique Echandi are located.
The theatre has varied services like the band shell, the auditorium and the cafeteria. In addition, the Teatro Nacional has an interesting website, in where you can get more information on the opening hours, performances, admission prices and reserve seats.
If you want to enjoy the entertaining and relaxed performances of the Costa Rican art, do not hesitate to visit the Teatro Nacional on your visit to San José.
