The Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art and Design) is considered to be one of the most rule-breaking museums of the country which exhibits one of the most dynamic and up-to-date collections of the Costa Rican contemporary art and design. It not only has contemporary art and design exhibitions, but also new Latin American and international contemporary tendencies’collections.

The museum exhibits important works from artists and designers internationally recognised, like the Central American and Costa Rican artists Karlo Andrei Ibarra, Franca Marini, Adolfo Siliézar or Carlos Bermúdez.
The Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo is located at a building with a high historical value that is considered to be part of the Costa Rican heritage as it was the National Liquor Factory´s old rum warehouse. Following a period of reforms and restoration of the building, the museum has four exhibition areas and an indoor area, called “Pila de la Melaza”.
The museum has services that stand out such as a documentation centre, video library, workshops, and talks, where you can meet the artists and exchange views with them. There is other service, the guided tours, with which you can enjoy the pleasant talks during the tour.
The Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo has become one of the must-see attractions in your visit to San José.
